Most business owners think about their domain once, on the day they buy it. Then a renewal notice goes to an old email address, the domain lapses, and the website and company email disappear on the same morning.
Check who owns it
Look up who the registered owner is. It should be your company, not a former employee or a developer you no longer work with. If you cannot log in to the account that holds your domain, sort that out first.
Check when it expires
Find the expiry date, turn on automatic renewal and make sure the billing contact is an inbox someone reads. A shared address such as admin@ or accounts@ survives staff changes better than a personal one.
Check what depends on it
Your domain probably powers more than your website: email, payment notifications, app logins and marketing tools. Write down what relies on it so that any future change happens with a plan.
